Thursday with Tomoe
rjsantosportfolio:
Process. I drew inspiration from ‘work in progress’. I’ve always been fascinated with the unfinished look where certain details are exposed. I like the idea of stopping at a point where things are still yet to ‘peak’. I think it gives excitement and somehow gives the viewers space to imagine.

Practical Exam!
rjsantosportfolio:
My sister and I just graduated from the University of the Philippines. I finished the degree BS Clothing Technology and she finished BS Food Technology, both of which are programs of the UP College of Home Economics. My original plan was to make her dress and just buy my barong. However, 3 days before the graduation, I still was not able to find a nice barong. So, I decided...

Joggers United (1st run)
As some of you know, we’re going to have our graduation fashion show this October. One of the things we’re doing to earn money, aside from selling pastries and clothes, is asking people for pledges and jogging around the acad oval in UP Diliman wearing costume!
Our first run turned out to be successful! We’re expecting more people to join next week. The theme is popstars. ;-)

Ode to McQueen
A few weeks ago, I had my draping midterm exam. Our professor chose three looks, one from Viktor and Rolf, Dior, and Alexander McQueen. The exam was to recreate the looks in less than seven hours using toile/muslin. The looks were assigned through draw lots. I picked Alexander McQueen’s design.
I was really scared with it since the original design had a lot of prints and it looked really...

Corkscrew Inspired
For one of my major subjects, we were tasked to make a floor length dress inspired by a random object through draw lots. I picked corkscrew and at first, I was really happy… until I realized that I’m not really into ‘swirly’ things.
Here is my take on the project. I actually added a lot of craters around the skirt but wasn’t able to take photos of it. In fact, I...

Serpentina
Last week, our exercise for our Draping class was to come up with a serpentina gown. This exercise covered two of our topics which were contouring and skirts.
So for my serpentina, I decided to go minimal, but challenged myself with the construction. I wanted it to look simple but had construction details that were quite challenging, at least for me.
The bottom part of the gown wasn’t...

10a Alabama
Last weekend (July 7-8), Ja, Pat, Yana and I joined the 10a Alabama bazaar. What I like about the bazaar was that it was different from all the bazaars that I’ve been to and that it only featured items that were hand-made in the country. This bazaar was actually very ‘chill’ and the people were very friendly and appreciative. I remembered Ja telling me that that was the...

Sunny Afternoon
Summer just ended for me a week ago and I cannot believe it. I’ve only had a few weeks to enjoy not doing/minding any academic-related stuff and it kinda sucks. I just wish to graduate on time (this acad year) and be able to spend summer until I’m over it. Haha

All In One
So how awesome is shopping in Bangkok? Well, I basically got the whole outfit sans the shoes and bag from Bangkok! I’m not a brand-conscious type of guy so I guess that’s one of the reasons why I enjoyed shopping in their ‘wholesale’ fashion malls, even their markets (chatuchak, Pratunam, Khao San). As long as it suits my style and it fits my budget, I’ll get it.

Last Night In Bangkok
Our flight was really early the next day, but we still pushed to go out that night since we knew we’re going to miss this place so much. True enough, until know, we talk about Khao San.
Before we got to Khao San, we had a little adventure, wherein we were taken to different places because the taxi driver told us that it was dangerous in Khao San. Still, after going to one Thai restaurant...

Bangkok| Central World
On our 3rd and 4th day, we decided to check out another mall, which was Central World. It was near the hotel, so after going to Pratunam Market, we rode the tuk tuk (motorcycle taxi) to Central World.
The first thing we did was eat. Of course, I ate the usual fried chicken and Hainanese chicken.
I love Thai humor.
Made In Candy! My new favorite candy haha.
Candy makers in action. It...

Bangkok Day 2 (2/2)| Buddhas, Wholesale Fashion...
On our second night, we decided to go to one of Bangkok’s night markets, Khao San.
We were greeted with a lot of food, clothes and accessories upon our arrival. It was like a big party, kind of what I envision Ibiza to be… (someday, someday) I was too excited to see what this night market has to offer that I, again, forgot to take photos of some really great stuff that were sold...

Bangkok Day 2 (1/2)| Buddhas, Wholesale Fashion...
Our second day in Bangkok was a delight. We were able to visit a lot of places. First, we went to the temples. We visited the Grand Palace and the temple where the Reclining Buddha was.
The Grand Palace took my breath away. It was astonishing, particularly this golden temple. Golden plates were embedded to the entire exterior of the temple.
Here’s me. I was supposed to wear a tank top...
